Southwest Airlines reported a substantially stronger third quarter, with record revenue and higher margins despite a sharp increase in fuel expense. Operating revenue reached $8.42 billion, up 21.2% year over year. Reported net income was $270 million, or $0.55 per diluted share, while adjusted net income totaled $328 million, or $0.66 per share.
